Jaguar SS 1.5 Litre The ”Baby Jaguar” Sports Car one-off

Lyons and Captain Black of the Standard Motor Company got together and made a small two- seater sports car based on the 1.5 litre chassis and engine (some sources say the car was built on a Standard Flying 'Twelve chassis) This car was probably built by the experimental depart- ments of the two companies, and the chassis and the engine both carried the same number EXP 501, denoting an experimental car. This was in 1939, but the car was unfinished at the outbreak of war. It was taken to Lyons' home, Wappenbury Hall, and kept there in the stables together with the factory SS 100, later registered LNW 100, for the duration. Some time after the war, "Lofty England retrieved the car and put the finishing touches to it, after which it was given to Lyons' son John for everyday use, replacing his motorcycle. was registered in December 1948 under HWK 10.
This car had possibly been intended as a production model, much like the SS 100 fixed-head coupé, but the war put a stop to this and the car ended up as a one-off, as after the war both companies were fully occupied in making as many normal cars for export as possible.
